1. What is Mid State Scare?
The mid state scare is the central coast’s
only indoor professional haunted house. We provide a guided tour of the underground chambers of the old post office.
2. Is it scary?
Yes. It's scary!
3. But is it really scary?
That's actually up to you. The most difficult
part of creating a haunt is to make something that will scare everyone, without offending or alienating anybody. This is much more
difficult that you would ever imagine. We've done our best to provide a scary environment. However, if you come to our attraction
with a bad attitude you probably aren't going to enjoy it nearly as much as someone who comes wanting to have fun with their friends.
4. How long does it take to go through?
Your tour through the bowels of the old post office should take 20 to 25 minutes. There is also
8 minutes back story video before you enter the event to ad to your entertainment.
5. How is Mid
State Scare different from other haunted attractions?
We pride ourselves on originality. Many haunts use the same ideas, and buy the
same props as everyone else in the industry giving them a very cliché "prepackaged haunted house" look. Our goal is to give people
something they have NEVER seen before. We are constantly experimenting with new ideas, new fears, and new technology to provide a
show that is not only scary, but an experience that will be remembered long after you've left the attraction.
6. Is the Mid State scare appropriate for my small children?
Probably not. We are a family oriented event and can provide a reduced level
of scares for individual groups when requested but ultimately this is a dark, loud, scary event not intended for small children. Think
PG-13.
7. So I can bring my kids?
You can bring pretty much whoever you want, but please remember
that the Mid State Scare is intended to be a scary place! Younger children may have a hard time realizing what is real and what is
just a show, and can be influenced; possibly even for life. We do not recommend any children under 12 attend our event. All children
are different, and because of this we will not enforce an age rule. In some cases we will escort out groups with an extremely terrified
child.. The attraction does contain mild gore, and may contain mild violence.
8. Can I use my ticket
another night if I don’t use it the night that it is for?
Yes, if you purchased at Halloween Express or for full price at the door.
Discounted and online purchases are for the specified date.
9. What are we NOT allowed to bring into
the Mid State Scare?
NO pets! NO weapons! NO outside food! NO outside drinks! NO alcoholic beverages! NO costumes!
Most importantly,
no ignition device (lighters, matches, etc ).
10. Will the ghouls and monsters touch me?
Nope! Our acting staff is instructed
to never touch a patron; unless you are extremely terrified and wish to be escorted out by hand (our cast pathways can get VERY dark!).
Our security staff may have to touch unruly patrons to calm them, but this is very rare.
11. I'm really scared! What if
I want out?
Simply let any of our acting staff know. They are allowed to break character to show you the way out if you really, really
want it. Security staff may be summoned to escort you if the actor cannot leave their place.
12. Are there coupons/discounts
available to the attraction?
Yes! Coupons for discounted general admissions are available throughout the town, on our website, and
with our sponsors. We also offer special rates for school, church, and other groups. As we move closer to October we will become more
aggressive in our marketing campaign; and coupons will become more abundant. So keep in ear out, and an eye on the website to find
out where we'll be next!
13. Are you handicapped accessible?
Yes! All of our pathways are at least 3 feet wide, and all
ramps are easy to push a wheelchair up and down.
14. What if I lose my cell phone, keys, jacket, wallet, etc?
We ask that
you hang on tight to all valuables, or leave what you can in your car. We will NOT close the attraction and send someone through looking
for any lost items. If someone does happen to find them they can be picked up from the ticket booth the next night we are open. If
you happen to lose your car keys we will be happy to provide you a phone to call for assistance or a ride.
15. Can I take
pictures or videos?
Nope! There are many reasons for this, including that flash can temporarily blind our actors, it disrupts the experience
of other guests, it slows down the line, and you may end up revealing things in the light that you didn't want to see to begin with.
Taking pictures / video generally results in the "Big Mean Security Guards"
16. What if I want a refund?
Sorry, but we have
a strict no refund policy. We operate on the same principals of a movie theater: you pay to see a show, regardless of the outcome.
This generally has never been a problem but of course you get the rare jerk that just wants a free show.
17. Can tickets
be purchased on the day or do I have to buy them ahead of time online?
Tickets can be purchased on the day at the ticket booth. However,
there is the possibility of the night that you want to go might sell out.
18. What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept
cash at the door. Credit cards can be used for online purchases or at Halloween Express in
19. Do you
need volunteers?
Always! Feel free to fill out the volunteer contact email on this website!
